Message with flower: Thank you for being a nice teacher! Have a kind heart like Alex

Students and friends of Alex Heldwein ("Super Alex") recently held a successful carnation sale to spread kindness and gratitude throughout Pioneer Middle School.

Individuals chose from among four different positive messages, and teacher William Harbison's students stapled each message to 350 purple carnations (the color representing Alex's medical condition, Hunter's Syndrome).

All of the money raised will go to Alex's family. "The thoughtfulness and kind words between everyone involved was so heartwarming," said teacher Michelle Breen.
