cards

Their ages are separated by a century. But that didn't stop Pioneer Middle School students from helping a local nursing home resident celebrate a milestone birthday.

Catherine Abate asked to be sent 112 cards for her 112th birthday. She is a resident of Elderwood Assisted Living in Hamburg.

A caretaker put out the word on Channel 2 NewsChannel 2 News about Miss Catherine's request. When 5th grade teacher Allison Schwab heard about it, she spearheaded a card-making project for students.

When the scissors and markers were put away, the students had made 120 birthday cards for Miss Catherine.

"They crushed Miss Catherine's goal!" Mrs. Schwab said.
