Pioneer High School's production of 'Guys and Dolls' is nominated for eight awards at the Shea's Wonder Awards this year.
The Wonder Awards are similar in nature to a professional award ceremony like the Oscars or Tonys that celebrate the best of the best. This year, 25 schools in the Western New York area were adjudicated during their performances and placed into categories.
Pioneer will be performing in the opening number at the Wonder Awards ceremony on May 16 at Shea's Performing Arts Center.
On April 20, 25 Pioneer students participated in a workshop on Shea's stage where they learned choreography and blocking with members of other schools involved in the Wonder Awards.
"We are so proud of our students!" said Victoria Tomasulo, musical director and choral teacher.
Pioneer is nominated for:
Best Costume Design and Execution
Best Choreography (choreographer is Chelsi Solem from Soul 2 Sole)
Best Music Direction
Showstopper Award for the performance of the song "Havana"
Best Collective Ensemble Performance
Magic of Theatre (Spirit of Wonder) Award
Celebration of Community (Spirit of Wonder) Award
Michael Shea Award for Educator of the Year (Victoria Tomasulo)
