The Pioneer Athletic Department is proud to announce the following 2025 winners of the department's annual scholarships, given at Achievement Night on June 11:
MARK CARBALLADA SCHOLAR/ATHLETE AWARD: This award is provided by the Carballada Family as a memorial to Mark, Pioneer High School, Class of 1980. This award is intended to encourage high standards of morality, citizenship, sportsmanship and a scholarship. The winner of this award will receive $2,000.00 check and a plaque. The winner is: Emma Watson
RANDY DAVIS MEMORIAL AWARD: This award is presented in memory of Randy Davis, a former Pioneer wrestler. This plaque is awarded to outstanding senior wrestler who plans on attending college next year. The winner is: Chris Howatt
PHYLIS M. JOHNSON MEMORIAL AWARD: This award is presented in memory of Phylis Johnston; an avid participant, fan, and supporter of athletics. Awarded to the senior female athlete who plans to participate in college athletics. The winner of this award will receive $100.00 and a plaque. The winner is: Shay Edwards
THOMAS RULE MEMORIAL: Given in honor of Thomas Rule, and awarded to a deserving bowler and a deserving baseball player. The Rule family has a tradition of bowlers and baseball players. On a historical note, Tom bowled the first 300 game in ECIC Competition. He accomplished this feat as an eighth grader. Each winner will receive a $50 check and a plaque. This award went to: Dominic Doty (bowling); Jared Day (baseball)
GARY SCHERFF MEMORIAL: Given in honor of a former bowling coach, and awarded to an outstanding male or female bowler who best exemplifies dedication to the sport of bowling. The winner of this award receives a plaque. Winner: Annelyse Pingrey
WILLIAM GETHICKER MEMORIAL: Given in honor of William “Buddy” Gethicker, this is awarded to the senior football player with the most spirit. The winner of this award receives a plaque and the winner is: Gavin Schwab
ANDY VOLK MEMORIAL: This is in memory of Andy Volk, former Pioneer student-athlete who participated in football, baseball and basketball. The honor is awarded to the senior who exemplifies team loyalty, citizenship and sportsmanship. The winner of this award will receive a plaque. Winner: Kasen Jarocinski

ROBERT CHADDOCK MEMORIAL is given in honor of Robert “Buzz” Chaddock, who was the first Athletic Director at Pioneer Central School. This award is presented to three senior female athletes who best exhibit dedication, discipline, and sportsmanship in volleyball, basketball and softball. Each will receive a plaque. Winners: Ashley Bush (volleyball); McKayla Westfall (softball); Emma Watson (basketball)
DWIGHT DEDRICK MEMORIAL: Given in memory of a former Delevan-Machias student who was killed the Vietnam War. Awarded to the senior student athlete who participated in the sport of basketball and best exemplifies the ideals of sportsmanship and citizenship. The winner of this award will receive a $100 check and a plaque. This award goes to: Owen Mason
BABE RUTH FOUNDATION: Awarded to the senior male and female student athlete who best exhibits and promotes the ideals of sportsmanship. The winner of this award will receive a trophy. Winners: Karter Giboo, Valerie Gilbert
KEN KITTLESON AWARD: Given in memory of Ken Kittleson, an Arcade High School graduate who was an outstanding three-sport athlete. Awarded to the outstanding female and male student athlete at Pioneer for this school year. The winner of this award will receive a trophy. The award goes to: Samuel Platt, Shay Edwards
KAYLEE ZUFALL MEMORIAL: An award granted to a senior cheerleader who is full of life. This recipient embodies the qualities of kindness, compassion, leadership and is an enthusiastic role model involved in their community. The winner is: Sklyer Warner
