Dear Arcade Elementary Families,
Happy May! I’m sure you’re aware that our parking lot/playground project is moving ahead full steam; teachers have had to be a little flexible with recess locations and activities, but we’re making it work! I’m including this month’s Project Read calendar with this letter. Thank you for your continued support of your children’s efforts!
We would like your help in terms of attendance, especially early leave. Please send in a note with your students on days you need to pick them up early, so teachers can plan ahead. Sometimes they need to take their belongings to lunch, recess, or specials, or there are items to be sent home. We also really appreciate your efforts to ensure students are here regularly and to help them catch up when they are absent. Our overall attendance is on the rise, now that the big cold and flu season has passed, and while the weather is getting warmer, there’s still a LOT of learning taking place!
Believe it or not, we are already making plans for next school year, and that includes our incoming UPK and kindergarten students. Packets are available now, so if you or someone you know needs to register a UPK or kindergarten student, please have them get a packet from the main office or the website. UPK is capped at 60, so don’t delay!
Finally, you may know that May 4-8 is Teacher Appreciation Week! If you have just a moment, taking the time to write a note of thanks or have your student make a little card for their teacher is a sweet gesture for those who work hard every day to make sure all of our kids have the best experience possible here at Arcade Elementary. I know social media would sometimes have us believe that gestures need to be elaborate or expensive, but every parent knows that the gifts we treasure most don’t cost anything at all.
As always, thank you for your support, and please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Kerry Slocum, Principal
