Dear Arcade Elementary Families,
Welcome to 2026! We jumped right back in despite snow days and cold temperatures, and we are celebrating some great things.
Our district has been emphasizing the importance of good attendance, and we at Arcade had a 95.78% attendance rate from September to December, including 28.2% of our students achievingperfect attendance! Even more impressive, that number is up from just 1% perfect attendance the year prior.
Now, obviously there are many factors that go into whether or not students are in school on any given day. We do remind everyone that when a student has had a fever or vomiting, they should be free of those symptoms for 24 hours in order to return. However, we appreciate your support in encouraging students to be here regularly. Our teachers do an excellent job of working with individual students to catch them up after an absence, but they simply cannot replicate every learning experience. Thank you for your support!
We are also seeing students make gains in their reading, and this is also due in part to your support. Thank you for continuing to read with your kids daily, and for emphasizing the importance of becoming strong readers.
As you well know, it becomes more difficult to learn to read as students approach and enter middle school, so our goal is help them gain competence and confidence while we have them here at Arcade.
We have recently completed our mid-year screeners, and I'll share more on that in my next letter. I'm including our February Project Read calendar with this note, and I ask that you send in completed January calendars early next week so we can draw our winners!!
Finally, a note of clarification on the school calendar. Friday, March 6, is a half day for all students; elementary teachers will not hold conferences that afternoon. However, if you have concerns at any time about your child's performance, behavior, or needs, please reach out to the teacher or to me. We can certainly find time to meet if necessary.
I want to thank you again for your partnership. Our school is the fantastic place that it is not only because of our amazing staff, but also because of your commitment to working together with us. It doesn't go unnoticed!
Sincerely,
Kerry Slocum, Principal
