Dear Arcade Families,
My November note is just a bit early this month, as I wanted to share some information about our Halloween parade. The parade will be on Friday, October 31st at 2:00p.m. Please refer to the information from your child’s teacher as it pertains to any parties or costume advice, but as this is a walking parade, please refrain from sending costumes that make walking difficult for your child. Our route will be different this year, and we will no longer need to cross the street. The parade will leave our main entrance, go up Church Street to Main Street, turn right and walk down Main Street to the driveway that will bring us back onto school property. Students will re-enter through our back door, and parents who were out back to watch will come back around front and proceed to classrooms to sign students out if they so desire. If you’re having a hard time visualizing that route, don’t worry—staff will be out there to assist!
New York State law now prohibits students from having communication devices with them during the school day. If you must send your child to school with a phone or wearable device, it may not be on their person during the school day. It can be kept in their locker, in the office, or with the teacher. Students who rely on such devices for medical reasons (like blood sugar monitoring) may have them but may not use them for any other purpose. If you have questions, please contact me to discuss them.
Please sign up for a parent-teacher conference with your child’s teacher(s). This is a valuable opportunity to discuss individual goals, concerns, and progress, and to celebrate your child’s growth so far this year. While we do not have days set aside for mid-year or spring conferences, our staff are always willing to call or meet to discuss them, so please do not hesitate to follow up on discussions you have during November conferences.
Finally, thank you for your participation so far in Project Read for Wyoming County. With this letter is November’s calendar so you have it in advance. The October calendars should be returned by November 4 to be eligible for the drawing. Every minute you spend reading with your child is time well spent!
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. I truly enjoy working with your children each day and am always available to discuss any concerns you may have. Enjoy the crisp fall weather, and I’ll be back next month with more updates!
Sincerely,
Kerry Slocum, Principal
