Pioneer School District residents will choose from among a pair of candidates for one five-year term on the school board, and decide on next year's general fund budget and a new capital improvement project.

Polling takes place Tuesday, May 17, from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., at Pioneer High School on County Line Road in Yorkshire.

Voters must be 18, must have lived in the district for at least 30 days prior to the vote, and are required to bring ID and proof of residence.

The school board election features incumbent Mary Lou Merlau against challenger Mark Kless.

The general fund budget proposal for 2022-23 totals $62.4 million, increases spending by 5.03, and raises the property tax levy by 2.98 percent.

Pioneer is also asking voters to decide on $28 million in new capital improvements. The plan has a zero taxpayer impact. Funds would help finish renovations in the high school auditorium, install new HVAC equipment in Delevan, and improve the Memorial Stadium, among other projects

The district has mailed home a budget guide with more details on the election.
