Pioneer's boys varsity basketball team is enjoying one of its finest seasons in a while, and will soon find out its postseason fate.
The Panthers won the ECIC III title with a 63-46 win over Depew on Feb. 16. Pioneer finished with a record of 14-5. Earlier this season the Panthers survived a double-overtime win over the Wildcats on the Panthers' home court.
This time around the Panthers avoided the drama with 29 4th-quarter points, led by Sam Platt's 19 points and 15 rebounds. Jasiah Jarocinski added 18 points, and Walter Bekiel chipped in 14.
It was the first league title in 38 years for the boys varsity. Earlier the Panthers wrestling team won its league, and it is the first time both teams achieved that distinction in the same year.
The seedings for the Section VI hoops tournaments will be announced on Saturday, Feb . 19.
