masks

Pioneer Superintendent Benjamin Halsey issued the following update on masks on Friday, Jan. 28:

"Good Afternoon, Pioneer. This is what we know at this time regarding masks and the court proceedings taking place on the topic in Albany.

"Superintendents received the following from the office of the Senior Deputy Commissioner of Education for New York State:  'The Attorney General’s Office let us know that there will not be another argument regarding the mask mandate on Friday – it’s just a submission deadline. They expect it might take up to a few weeks for the Appellate Division to rule on whether there will be a longer stay pending appeal, but it’s hard to predict.'

"Obviously – we were preparing for some sort of hearing to occur today (Friday, January 28), and consistent with past decisions, a late Sunday afternoon decree would come out that would leave schools scrambling for a decision for Monday morning.  Based on the information shared above, the weekend should be quiet and no change in protocols with masks will occur.  We will continue to do what we have been doing until further notice.

"Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation on this matter.  Have a great weekend."
