Giving Tree program will look different this year

Pioneer School District’s Giving Tree program, which has been in place nearly 20 years, is among the many traditions being affected by COVID-19.

Pioneer PRO (Panthers Reaching Out) has sponsored the program, in which needy local families are identified and donors purchase gifts for children anonymously based on their age, wants, and needs.

There will be none of the paper ornaments with general info about the child and giving prompts.

PRO advisors Tina Treichler and Louise Herrick said that instead, the Giving Tree is seeking donations and sponsorships. Sponsorships are as follows:

·      Elementary - $65

·      Middle School - $75

·      High School - $90

Another option is just to give a donation in any amount of your choice. The deadline is Nov. 13. Checks are to be made out to Pioneer Giving Tree.

"We are also distributing to the families before Thanksgiving this year, so the timing is a little shorter than in past years," Mrs. Treichler said.

Sponsorships/donations can be sent to Pioneer Giving Tree, c/o Pioneer High School. P.O. Box 579, Yorkshire, NY 14173. Attention: Louise Herrick.
