The Pioneer Marching Panthers are looking forward to a busy season this fall.

The band travelled to West Seneca for its first competition on September 19. They came in second place with a score of 63.

Band Director April Woolley said, "The kids played very well and did a great job. We have a lot to learn and add as the season goes on, but we are very excited for this season."

Mrs. Woolley said the Drum Majors are Noah Domes and Merrick Golombek.

This year's show is called “Only Light Can Do That” and is based on a Martin Luther King quote: "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that."

Mrs. Woolley added, "The show takes us from dark to light as the light defeats the darkness. The show starts with a flute soloist who will play a melody that you will hear throughout the show. As the program moves forward, we hear the transition."

The band performs at Medina on Sept. 26, and at Pioneer Homecoming on Oct. 2. The Marching Panthers will also return to the New York State Field Band Competition at Syracuse on Sunday, Nov. 1.
