Pioneer School District is among the schools preparing for the return of interscholastic sports in 2020-21, officials said.
The Covid-19 Task Force of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) met on August 31, to examine the state Department of Health's latest guidance and recommendations for the fall sports season. The task force is developing a comprehensive document for schools to utilize as they prepare for the return of sports.
NYSPHSAA is expected to release the latest guidelines no later than Friday, Sept. 4.
The fall sports season is still scheduled to begin Sept. 21. Meanwhile, the proposed start of winter sports has been pushed back from Nov. 16 to Nov. 30, to give schools more time to finish the fall season.
Pioneer Athletic Director William Weidner said the Panthers' sports program is taking all the necessary steps to resume fall sports at the earliest date possible.
