parent meeting

Pioneer School District is dedicating significant time, effort and resources toward its September re-opening, as discussed at a virtual parent information meeting August 13.

The community was invited to join in via Zoom, and have their written questions about reopening answered. The session, mandated by the state Education Department, was the first of three such meetings. The other two are at 6pm on August 17 and 20.

Superintendent Benjamin Halsey led off the meeting by discussing the planning that has taken place this summer, the re-opening plan filed with the state, and the various learning options available to families.

For general education students in grades 1-12, Pioneer will offer families a choice of a hybrid learning plan (two days of in-person instruction, three days of remote learning) or full-time remote instruction.  UPK and kindergarten will attend half-days Monday through Friday.

Principals from Pioneer's elementary schools, the middle school, and high school explained what learning is expected to look like once classes resume. The special education department also gave an overview of how instruction will be designed for self-contained classes.

During the 2-1/2 hour virtual town hall—Pioneer's first—over 450 users logged into Zoom to get an update and ask any questions they might have. Members of Pioneer's leadership team read many of the questions out loud, so the audience could hear answers from Mr. Halsey and the administrator team.
