school reopening

School districts such as Pioneer can re-open in September, providing they have filed plans for remote learning, COVID-19 testing, and contact tracing, Governor Cuomo said on August 7.

Pioneer, like 700 other school districts in the state, has been closed since March 13. The schools had until July 31 to file re-opening plans with the state Education Department.

Pioneer will pursue a hybrid model of in-person and remote learning. One cohort of grades 1-12 general education students will attend Monday and Tuesday, while the other cohort will attend Thursday and Friday. Wednesday is a day of remote learning for all general ed students.

UPK and kindergarten students will have half-days Monday-Friday. Also special education and BOCES Career Tech students will attend daily classes.

A re-opening committee has been meeting regularly since June to oversee and plan the return of Pioneer students  and staff.
