A familiar Broadway classic is heading for the stage of Pioneer High School.
The music department is presenting 'Guys and Dolls', a romantic musical comedy set in 1950s New York City, centering on two parallel romances. High roller Sky Masterson bets Nathan Detroit he can make a pious missionary, Sarah Brown, fall in love with him, while Nathan tries to evade his fiancé of 14 years, Miss Adelaide, and run an illegal floating dice game.
Director Victoria Tomasulo said, "Our production will run Friday, March 13, at 7pm, Saturday, March 14 at 2pm and 7pm, and Sunday, March 15, at 2pm."
Tickets are $10 for students and seniors and $12 for adults. If you purchase presale tickets from the website, https://www.onthestage.tickets/show/pioneer-high-school1/691763d6d74aa53148d69395 and enter the promo code "GDBUNDLE" then you will receive 20 percent off a purchase of 4 or more tickets.
'Guys and Dolls' has about 75 students involved from cast, crew and pit.
Miss Tomasulo added, "We are so excited to also announce that we will be participating in this year's Shea's Wonder Awards, a dynamic initiative designed to celebrate and support the arts in high schools, foster excellence in musical theatre, and provide valuable educational opportunities for students. This program is deeply committed to nurturing young talent, promoting collaboration, and building a strong sense of community within the world of musical theatre.
"We are one of 25 high schools chosen this year to participate, and will know what awards we will be eligible for once the judges have seen ours and all the other productions. That announcement will be coming in April," Miss Tomasulo said.
