The Buffalo Bills have nominated Pioneer High School junior Ellie Edwards for the Maxwell Football Club Girls National Flag Football Player of the Year Award.

All 32 National Football League teams selected a female high school flag football player to represent their team for consideration for this year's award, which recognizes outstanding on-field performance, academic achievement and community service.

Four finalists from both the NFC and AFC will be chosen later this month, with the winner being announced in January.

Ellie is not only ranked 10th academically in her class but also led her team to a state Class C championship last spring, Pioneer's first state title. She received letters of recommendation for the award from her pastor, her coach and principal, which highlighted her school and team leadership and community service at Hope Lutheran Church in Arcade.

She was team MVP in flag football and co-Player of the Year for Class C in New York State.
