Alex

When you see a flash of purple during the 2020 Arcade Winterfest 5K Run on February 8, you’ll know it is for a very special Arcade Elementary student.

That plethora of people wearing purple capes is for Alex Heldwein, who is battling Hunter’s Syndrome, a condition with no known cure. He has recently been hospitalized twice and undergone surgery for complications from the syndrome.

The Arcade Winterfest Committee has generously purchased purple capes in support of Alex, and runners can don the capes during the race. The capes are $5 each, with proceeds going toward Alex’s medical costs. To reserve one, contact Lauren Julicher (ljulicher@ pioneercsd.org), or stop in at Zimmer's Auto Parts.

“Let’s paint the town purple for Alex,” Mrs. Julicher said.

The race starts at 11:00 a.m.

Staff in Pioneer School District buildings are also turning out in purple (dress down or dress up) on Wednesday, Feb. 5, to raise funds and awareness in Alex's name. He is a former student at Delevan Elementary.
