The 2022 Pioneer Central School Capital Project will result in the closing of parts of Pioneer High School starting in mid-February.
Nicholas Titus, Director of Facilities, recently issued a capital project update to prepare staff for the upcoming construction season.
Voting on a new round of capital improvements will occur at the high school March 19.
Mr Titus said:
The contractors are beginning to ramp up capital project work at the [Memorial} Stadium. Contractors completed the home bleacher expansion before the holidays. Construction has started on the new bathroom facility in the stadium. Additionally, the site contractor has ramped up work around the stadium this week. Here are the improvements you can expect to see this year at the stadium:
- new entrances into the stadium
- new perimeter fencing around the entire stadium facility
- new interior fencing around the running track
- concrete walkways throughout the stadium
Track and field upgrades will include:
- relocation of the pole vault area (this was necessary because of the bleacher expansion)
- relocation of the long jump and triple jump to the northeast corner of the stadium
- removal of current long and triple jump sand pits from the inner section of the running track
All stadium work is tentatively scheduled to be completed by mid-late August.
Additionally, project work will start next week inside Pioneer High School. Here are the improvements you can expect to see this year:
- The C-West student bathroom renovation is scheduled to start next week, and demolition will ramp up over the February break. They will continue to work on the C-West bathrooms throughout the school year with the louder work completed after school. We do not have a firm completion date yet for the bathroom work.
- Art room renovation: This work is scheduled to start on May 13 with a tentative completion date of August 30.
- New special education classrooms, A135 and A137. This work is scheduled to start mid-June with a tentative completion date of August 30.
- Auditorium renovations: Scheduled to start July 1, with a tentative completion date of March 2025.
- The cafeteria freezer located outside the loading dock will be replaced with a much larger freezer. That work is tentatively scheduled to start in Mid-June with a tentative completion date of August 30.

Please note, when the weather breaks for the spring, the contractors will be taking over the basketball courts on the south side of the high school for a construction staging area.
