The Pioneer School District has a new Director of Curriculum and Instruction and Delevan Elementary Principal.

Matthew Langworthy, current principal of Delevan Elementary School, will move to his new administrative role on February 1.

Mr. Langworthy was appointed at the regular meeting of the Pioneer Board of Education on January 16.

Mr. Langworthy began working as Delevan principal on December 2, 2022. Prior to beginning his administrative career, Mr. Langworthy served as a first grade teacher in Rochester, and as a second-grade teacher in Jamestown. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from SUNY Fredonia. 

He earned his School Building Leadership Certificate (SBL) from Fredonia and his School District Leadership Certificate (SDL) from SUNY Buffalo State College. During the teaching portion of his career, he also served as the varsity wrestling coach at Jamestown High School where he earned ECIC Coach of the Year honors, as well as being named the Jamestown Post-Journal Coach of the Year. 

Mr. Langworthy’s promotion to Director of Curriculum and Instruction prompted other administrative changes at Pioneer. Michael Jansma has been appointed principal at Delevan Elementary.

Mr. Jansma has been an assistant principal at Pioneer Middle School since the start of 2023-24. Prior to that he spent three years as an assistant principal at Pioneer High School.

He resides in Attica and was formerly a math teacher at Attica High School.

He holds certificates for School Building Leader and School District Leader. He earned his education degrees at Canisius College and SUNY Buffalo. 

In the area of education supervision, Mr. Jansma was a summer school principal at Lancaster High and an administrative intern at Attica High. He has also managed the Town of Attica's recreation program. 

Also at the Jan. 16 meeting, Lauren Semo was appointed to join the Pioneer team as an assistant principal at Pioneer Middle School. Ms. Semo attended Canisius College and currently works as a Special Education teacher in the East Aurora School District. She begins at Pioneer on Feb. 15.
