It has been a busy summer as Pioneer School District buildings and grounds were readied for the start of 2023-24.

Director of Facilities Nick Titus said most projects are complete, while others are a work in progress. "I can't thank the custodians, cleaners and groundskeepers enough for all of their hard work getting the buildings and grounds in tip-top shape for the start of the school year.  They did a fantastic job!" he said.

A lot has happened at Pioneer High School since the end of June.  As part of the 2022 capital project, the turf at Memorial Stadium was replaced, and work has started on a new bathroom facility nearby. Upon completion of the fall sport seasons, additional stadium work will continue, including a home sideline bleacher expansion, construction of a new entrance facade, construction of a new long jump area, and installation of field netting.

Mr. Titus said the next phase of the 2022 capital project includes renovations to the high school auditorium and the  Visual Art classrooms.  District architects plan to open bids for that work in late fall with the majority of the construction taking place next summer.

One project at the high school that is ongoing is gym floor replacement. "A water line broke in the high school E-wing last Christmas, which led to floor damage in the wood shop and the gymnasium," Mr. Titus said.  "The gym floor replacement is currently underway, and the goal is to have the floor completed and ready to use for Homecoming."

The wood shop flooring has been sanded and refinished.

Some of the other summer projects completed at Pioneer High School:

  • 15 classroom relocations
  • Patched and painted 15 classrooms
  • Rebuilt the building water heaters
  • Built new furniture for the guidance area
  • Replaced the flooring in the dish room of the kitchen to prepare for new dishwasher
  • Revamped basement storage
  • Installed new lights in the South parking lot

In future updates, we'll review the summer maintenance happenings at Arcade, Delevan and Pioneer Middle School.
