A current Pioneer student and a recent graduate were honored recently at the annual Aspire of WNY WOW (World of Work) awards.

The ceremony was held June 13. Aspire of WNY is a non-profit agency that provides services to developmentally disabled students and adults. These services can include supported housing, independent living, and skills training.

Current PCS student Abby Kaminski and former student Tyler Platt were Pioneer's 2018-19 WOW honorees. Both started as interns at Savers in Hamburg.

Abby, daughter of Pam & John Kaminski of Chaffee, learned how to sort and recycle clothes at Savers, an environment where she enjoyed the high energy and excitement. Later she transitioned to Country Inn & Suites, where she worked in the houseman, housekeeping and breakfast departments.

Abby plays basketball for Pioneer's Unified Team. She enjoys music, reading, and playing games with her friends. She would like to explore career options in public service and law. She said she would like to own her own home and someday travel to the Caribbean.

Tyler is a former PCS student and also played Unified Basketball. Like Abby, he built his customer service skills at Savers before moving to Country Inn & Suites, working in the houseman, housekeeping and breakfast departments.

"The WOW program means respect to me," Tyler said. I am grateful for my co-workers and that I get to help my co-workers."

Tyler's interests include sleeping in on the weekends, listening to music, and helping out around the house. His favorite chore is taking care of his dogs. He is considering a future career in housekeeping or janitorial work.

Both Abby and Tyler are looking forward to returning to the WOW program and proudly representing Pioneer.
