VOTERS TO ACT ON $57.2 MILLION BUDGET

Pioneer School District voters will decide among four candidates for two five-year terms on the Board of Education, and act on a $57.2 million proposed budget for 2019-20.

Polling occurs Tuesday, May 21, from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., at Pioneer High School.

A public hearing on the budget happened Tuesday, May 7, as part of the Board of Education's regular evening meeting.  Board candidates also had a chance to introduce themselves.

The board candidates will appear on the ballot as follows: Mike Nelson, Denise Urbino, Darla Schwab, and Anthony Giboo. Mrs. Urbino and Mrs. Schwab are currently on the board.

The top two vote-getters will receive five-year seats on the board.

The proposed general fund budget would increase spending by 2.07 percent. The tax levy increase is 1.86 percent.

The spending plan preserves existing services and programs. Staffing additions include a Universal Pre-Kindergarten teacher.

A budget newsletter mailed to residents will have more details.
