COMMITTEE ON PRESCHOOL SPECIAL EDUCATION

The Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) is a multidisciplinary team established to conduct meetings to develop, review, or revise the Individual Education Program (IEP). The CPSE office is responsible for determining eligibility and the appropriate level of services for students with disabilities from ages 3-5. The CPSE office is authorized to identify students in need of services, place the student in the least restrictive environment in which they can succeed, and provide appropriate services to meet the student’s educational needs.

Committee members shall include but not be limited to the following:

  • Parent(s)/Guardian, Regular Education teacher (if child participating in this environment), Special Education Teacher or not less than one special education provider, Chairperson, and a representative of the municipality.

  • Additional parent members are welcome if specifically requested in writing by the parent 72 hours prior to the meeting

  • For a child in transition from Early Intervention (EI) programs and services, to CPSE, at the request of the parent, the appropriate professional designated by the agency that has been charged with the responsibility for the preschool child.
