Pioneer Schools will remain closed through the end of 2019-20.

In response to the Covid-19 crisis, Governor Andrew Cuomo on May 1 extended the closure of New York school districts through the end of the year.

Schools were shuttered in mid-March and the hard closure has been extended several times.

Pioneer superintendent Benjamin Halsey shared the news with staff, students and the public. He added that decisions about summer school will be made by the end of May.

Mr. Halsey addressed some parent concerns in his statement. "We have begun a distribution plan process for personal belongings and we will share this with you accordingly. We are starting with musical instruments and athletic equipment as soon as Monday, May 4. Locker belongings and items in classrooms will be forthcoming.  Please be patient.  How we do it must be safe and organized."

Additionally, he said, the spring sports season for all modified, JV, and Varsity competition is cancelled as a result of the governor's order.

"The plan going forward is to continue our teaching and learning process, our support of mental and emotional health of our students and families, and to continue our food distribution program," Mr. Halsey said.

He also shared a message to the Class of 2020. "For our seniors, I am very sorry that your final school year has ended in this fashion.  We will celebrate you and all you have accomplished. You have earned this, and we will do it right. What this looks like will be announced in the very near future.  Pioneer is proud of you."
