BOARD APPOINTS NEW STAFF

Two new special education staffers were appointed at the Dec. 17 meeting of the Pioneer Board of Education.

Steven DeGroff, who holds a permanent New York State Teaching Certificate to practice school psychology, was appointed to a school psychologist vacancy at Delevan Elementary School. He takes over for Cheri Minehan, who started as assistant principal at Pioneer Middle School on Nov. 12.

According to Special Education Director Jean Vallance, Mr. DeGroff "brings a wealth of background knowledge related to Committees on Special Education (CSE), Response to Intervention (Rti), Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), testing and working hands-on with students and student groups."

Mr. DeGroff begins in his new position on January 6.

Meanwhile, Suzanne Rioch, who holds a permanent New York State Teaching Certificate in Special Education, was appointed to the full-time position of special education resource teacher at the high school.  The position has been covered by two retired staff since the start of 2019-20.

Ms. Rioch begins in her new position on January 6.
