Marching Band at West Seneca

The love of music has inspired the 2019 Pioneer Marching Panthers field show.

"Elements of Music" is the theme of the show, which saw its first run on Sept. 7 at West Seneca East's "Music in Motion" competition.

The band director is April Woolley, assisted by Jared Burch. The color guard is headed up by Carolyn Kosinski.

This year's drum majors are Cora Blackwell and Anthony Bostwick.

The Marching Panthers have been polishing up their show since the summer. They finished 2nd out of four teams at West Seneca, with several more opportunities to improve on that showing in the coming weeks.

Competitions are at Jamestown (Sept. 14), Medina (Sept. 21), and Lancaster (Sept. 28). After Pioneer homecoming (Oct. 11), they appear at Orchard Park (Oct. 19) before the state Field Band Conference in Syracuse closes the season on Oct. 27.

The Marching Band said farewell to 16 seniors at the end of last season. However, many new members have joined the ranks, with the color guard up to 21.  Total membership among the middle and high school students is 55.

'Elements of Music' highlights a variety of textures and emotions. It features a rich weave of basic musical elements in an attainable, compelling work. There are various solo moments and a rousing rocking closer.
