Dear Delevan Families,
I want to officially welcome all of you to the 2015-2016 School Year! I am so excited to continue our excellent traditions at Delevan and to introduce exciting new programs and staff. We were approved for another full day UPK which currently allows a total of forty students to attend the full day program. We will continue to offer two half day UPK programs as well. Please welcome our new staff outlined below:
school year we will be implementing a different approach to PBIS, “We [will be]
a bucket filling school!” Bucket filling
has become one of the most popular character development programs in elementary
schools. Bucket filling creates positive
energy that is contagious. In today’s society
we are faced with extra challenges on a daily basis, so it’s more important
than ever to practice bucket filling. Look for buckets around the school and help us
become bucket fillers! A schedule of PBIS grade level assembly times will be
sent home with your child’s teacher at the beginning of the year. We welcome all of our families to attend the
assemblies. To learn more about Bucket Filling and get more great ideas, click here!
Our teachers have worked countless hours this summer to refine lessons and to research best practices that will promote student engagement. We will continue with the vision of School Wide Literacy and incorporate a thematic reading celebration that includes all grade levels and special areas. Our dedicated staff, students and parents have been working extremely hard to increase student achievement and we are definitely headed in the right direction! We have moved up fifty-five spots in the Business First rankings in one year and a total of seventy-seven places in three years. We have become very well versed in the Common Core ELA and Math curriculum. It’s exciting that we can start our 4th year together and continue right where we left off in all curriculum areas. If you have questions about the grade level curriculum please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher. Here are some resources that can also assist with questions you may have:
On a final note, we want every one of our families to feel welcome to our school community. We strongly encourage all of our families to join our Parent Teacher Organization, led by our PTA President, Heather Petri. You will have an opportunity to learn more about the PTA at our student orientation on September 2nd. We also welcome you to become a volunteer at the school. Please see Mary Becker, Home-School Liaison for volunteer information. Delevan Elementary is an exciting place, and we want to make sure that you have every opportunity to be a part of it.
Enjoy the remainder of your summer!
