New Immunization Requirements:
In Accordance to Public Health Law Section 2164; amendments in 2004 and 2006 have mandated the following:
Students born on or after January 1, 1994, and who enroll in the 6th grade must be immunized against varicella (chicken pox).
Parental recall of the disease history is not sufficient, and will not be accepted as proof of immunity. History of the varicella disease as documented by a health care provider or documentation of the varicella immunization by a health care provider is the only accepted documentation.
Many Pioneer students entering 6th grade have already met this requirement.
Additionally, students born on or after January 1, 1994 are required to have booster vaccinations for diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis upon entering the 6th grade. Note – there is an interval recommendation of two years between the vaccine and the booster. Please discuss details with your private physician or local health department.
According to school records, only a few Pioneer students have met this requirement.
Parents should check with their private physicians and/or local county health departments, to update student immunizations to bring them into compliance for the upcoming school year, and to gain further information regarding the new amendments.
