All About Mrs. Benstead
This is my 19th year teaching full time at Arcade Elementary. I started here in 1999 as a fourth grade teacher, then moved on to second grade in 2002, then up to third grade in 2004, before I made my home amongst the first grade team. This is my third year teaching first grade. I am very glad to have moved around a bit because it has definitely broadened my perspectives about kids and how they learn.
Before I started full-time at Pioneer, I lived in West Seneca where I grew up and attended Buffalo State College for my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. I began my teaching career as a substitute teacher for the Pioneer and Orchard Park Schools. I then proceeded on to attend SUNY Geneseo to work on my masters degree in Special Education. Then after many long term positions within the Pioneer District I started my first position in fourth grade.
I live in East Aurora with my husband, Tim, and our two children, Jessica and Alyssa. At home we have a a beautiful Shetland Sheepdog, named Champ, who loves to herd the girls any chance he gets. As a family we love to be outdoors, either bike riding, walking, or playing in our seasonal snow fort. When indoors we love to cook/bake, watch movies, read a good book and play board games.
Please know that I feel that teaching is one of the most important careers a person could ever have. I cherish the responsibility I have in shaping each child who enters my room. My previous experiences have benefited the students that I have had because I understand the expectations of their future schooling and will do all I can in our year together to get them ready for it!
I love teaching within the Pioneer community and look forward to the opportunity to get to know you and work with you.
