We will start the year by getting familiar with the art room, fire drill procedure, classroom contract, etc.
Then we will begin with LINE, different kinds of lines, making lines with different kinds of tools, making lines to music, adding color to lines - great fun!
I like to tell kindergarten students that "a line is a dot that went for a walk". A line has length and width, but its width is tiny compared to its length. The variety of lines is almost endless and many adjectives can describe the quality of a line: excited, nervous, calm, etc. Lines can be dots, short jabs, or long and fluid.
Here is some art work inspired by the illustrator, Eric Carle. Students painted, printed, and textured papers and then cut them out to create beautiful images.
