    Dear Delevan Families,
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! This summer the staff and I have been fine tuning some of our current initiatives with the goal to increase student engagement and allow for every student to feel special and LOVE coming to school.  With this in mind, we will be creating a school-wide project based on the book, Only One You by Linda Kranz. Students and staff members will be painting a rock that represents them.  The rocks will be added to our rock garden out front.  We will be focusing on the quote:

There’s only one you in this great big world.  Make it a better place!

If your child finds a special rock this summer, please feel free to send it in with him/her for our project.  We will continue to be bucket fillers during the school year and at home. Each child will receive the book, Have You Filled a Bucket Today? to keep at home and share with their family.

You are invited to come and meet your child’s teacher at our Parent/ Student Orientation Day on Tuesday, September 5th during the assigned grade level time.  The orientation day schedule is included. This will assist us in building a relationship with you and your child before the school year starts. You may bring your child’s school supplies at this time. Also, please check the Delevan website for the appropriate school supply lists. They are also posted on our school Facebook page.  We will continue to use our Facebook page to communicate updates, reminders, school events, and school/classroom celebrations.  Based on parent feedback, this avenue of communication has been extremely helpful to our families. If you haven’t done so already please feel free to “like” our page to see all of the great things happening at Delevan Elementary!

We have excellent traditions and celebrations at Delevan.  We welcome all families to join us and celebrate students’ success together.  Here is a sneak peek of some upcoming events and opportunities to visit our school: PBIS Kick-off Assembly, PTA Family Fall Fest, Halloween Parade, Grade Level Reading and Writing Celebrations, Parent/Teacher Conferences and PTA Holiday Gala. More information including dates and times will be sent home with the students.  This year we will be combining parent student orientation and open house into one event on Sept. 5thWe will not be having a separate open house this year.  You will be provided with all of your child’s projects and classroom activities at parent-teacher conferences in November.

We have new staff joining us this year.  Let’s welcome Jessica Dolan, Grade 2-3 Reading Teacher; 4th Grade Teacher TBD; Rebecca Trowbridge, 2nd Grade Teacher, and Sarah Lawson, Special Education Teacher. Let’s also welcome our new PTA Officers: Carla Maul, President; Dawn Burch, Vice President; Lisa Ebert, Secretary; Melisa Luderman, Treasurer.

The first day of school for students is on Wednesday, September 6th. We start school at 8:45 and dismiss at 3:25.  Please remember to turn in all necessary transportation paper work. Enjoy the remainder of the summer and see you soon!

    Warmest Regards,
    Tiffany Giannicchi
