{Academies} What are Academies?

An academy is a School within a School magnet program run in high schools.  Students apply during 9th grade, then from 10th-12th grade, complete a focused sequence of courses that prepare them for a specific career path.  The course program combines academic and technical curriculum with work-based experiences teaching students skills to be successful within that particular career area.  It includes input from businesses in a specific industry to make sure the program is accurately preparing students for that career path.  Students will go through the 5 to 5 1/2 elective credits with members from their Academy.  In addition to the career specific knowledge they will gain, they will also develop great leadership, communication, teamwork, and problem solving skills.
